Bicycles

Am Freitag während der Fahrt nach Harlingen und retour, um Livia abzuholen, hat es fast ununter-brochen geschüttet. Die folgenden drei Tage sind die sonnigsten und wärmsten der bisherigen Reise. Außerdem ist fast kein Wind. Daher nutzen wir die Gelegenheit für zwei lange Ausflüge mit dem Rad.

On Friday, during the ferry-ride to Harlingen and back to pick up Livia, it poured almost non-stop. The following three days are the sunniest and warmest of the trip so far. Moreover, there is almost no wind. So we take the opportunity for two extended excursions by bike.

Viel zu erzählen gibt es zu diesen Aktivitäten nicht. Insgesamt zählt das Radwegenetz 26 km, dazu kommen noch etwa 15 km an asphaltierter Straße. Autos sind selten auf Vlieland, weil nur die Einwohner eines mit auf die Insel nehmen dürfen, und es sind nur knapp über 1.000 davon.

Zwischendurch haben wir die Räder auch abgestellt und einige Wanderungen zu Fuß erledigt – am Strand kann und darf man ja nicht Rad fahren. Ich werde deshalb jetzt mit dem Text aufhören und lieber ein paar nette Fotos anfügen.

Heute Nachmittag wird wieder gesegelt. Es sollten recht gute Verhältnisse herrschen für die Überfahrt nach Terschelling, der nächsten Insel in der Inselkette zwischen Festland und Nordsee.

There is not much to tell about these activities. In total, there are 26 km of cycle paths, plus about 15 km of asphalt roads. Cars are rare on Vlieland because only residents are allowed to take one onto the island, and there are only just over 1,000 of them.

In between, we also parked the bikes and did some walking – you can’t and aren’t allowed to cycle on the beach. So I will stop with the text now and rather attach a few nice photos.

This afternoon we will sail again. Conditions should be quite good for the crossing to Terschelling, the next island in the chain of islands between the mainland and the North Sea.
