Periplus becomes pepperbird – part 2
Zweiter Tag unserer Boat-Finding-Mission:
Wir haben beschlossen, dass wir die Periplus nicht aufgeben wollen, aber wir werden unser Angebot von gestern erneuern: 16.000,00 £
The second day of our boat-finding mission:
We have decided that we do not want to give up Periplus, but we will renew our offer from yesterday: £ 16,000.00 £
Viel Platz hat der Navigator nicht!

Nachdem wir eine Nacht über den Ereignissen des ersten Tages geschlafen hatten, fuhren wir nach dem Frühstück wieder in den Suffolk Yacht Harbour (SYH), um den Samstagvormittag allein auf dem Boot zu verbringen. Nachdem der Vertrag unterschrieben war, wollten wir das Gefühl, Yacht-Eigner zu sein, auskosten.
Wir haben dann das ganze Boot von vorne nach hinten und von oben nach unten noch einmal gründlich besichtigt und uns von der gediegenen Bauweise der Westerly überzeugt. Wir haben in jedes Schapp geschaut und sind in jeder Koje gelegen, wie haben die Doppelkoje aufgebaut und die Leesegel eingesetzt. Ja, das würde unsere pepperbird sein!
Zu Mittag kamen dann Edward und James und machten die Periplus segelfertig (noch war es ihr Boot). Es war ein trüber, kalter Tag (~5° C) und wir hatten zum Glück nur einen leichten Wind, aber wir hatten Wind. Mit der letzten Flut segelten wir den Orwell hinauf und nach dem Kentern des Stromes wieder hinunter. Ich „durfte“ die ganze Zeit an der Pinne stehen und das Gefühl genießen, meine zukünftige Yacht durch die Flusswindungen zu manövrieren.
After a night’s rest and a hearty breakfast at the Holiday Inn Hotel at Ipswich we went back to Suffolk Yacht Harbor (SYH) to spend Saturday morning alone on the boat. After the contract was signed, we wanted to enjoy the feeling of being yacht owners.
We inspected the entire boat from front to back and from top to bottom thoroughly and were fully convinced of the solid construction of this Westerly yacht. We looked into every cupboard and were lying in each bunk, we assembled the double berth and tried the lee sail.
Yes, this would be our pepperbird!
At noon, Edward and James came over and made the Periplus ready to sail (it was still their boat). It was a cloudy, cold day (~ 5 ° C) and luckily we had only a light wind, but at least we had wind! With the last of the flood we sailed up the Orwell and down after the tide turned. I was allowed to stand on the helm all the time and enjoyed the feeling of maneuvering my future yacht around the river bends.
Das Boot reagiert sehr flott – fast schon empfindlich – auf jede Pinnenbewegung. Geradeaus fahren erfordert also eine gewisse Konzentration. Erfreulich war, dass der doch sehr leichte Wind für einigen Vorschub gesorgt hat, Konsorts gelten allgemein als etwas untersegelt.
Nachdem wir durchfroren wieder in der Marina angekommen waren, haben wir im Salon den Heizstrahler eingeschaltet und das leidige Osmose-Thema angegangen. – Wir haben uns schließlich darauf geeinigt, den Kaufpreis noch einmal um
500,00 £ zu reduzieren, das Geschäft aber nicht abzusagen. Letztendlich werden wir für die kleine Konsort 16.500,00 £ oder knapp unter 20.000,00 € bezahlen.
Es war geschafft, aus Periplus wird pepperbird!
The boat reacts very quickly – almost sensitively – to every movement of the tiller. So going straight ahead requires a quite an amount of concentration. It was helpful that the very light wind provided some propulsion, Konsorts have generally the reputation of being slightly undercanvased.
After we got back to the marina freezing, we turned on the electric heater in the salon and discussed the difficult osmosis issue. – We finally agreed to reduce the price once more by
£ 500.00, but not to cancel the deal. In the end we’ll have to pay 16,500.00 £ or a little less than 20,000.00 € for this little Konsort.
It was done, Periplus will become pepperbird!
